How to Transfer Photos from iPhone to PC without iTunes

Photos are a way to capture and preserve beautiful moments you’ve experienced in your life, much more beautiful when those photos are captured on your iPhone. You could have a massive collection of photos that could make up a gallery. I say this because I know a lot of people who do. The one major problem with storing your photos on your iPhone is that your phone memory might get full or you might lose your phone. Whichever happens first, the bottom line is that you will lose your photos if you don’t back it up first.
iTunes is one way to transfer your photos to your PC but it can be time-consuming because it lags when transferring bulk photos and can also reduce the quality of the photos. In this article, I will be showing you how to transfer photos from your iPhone to PC without iTunes.
Let’s begin:
Transferring Photos From iPhone To PC Without iTunes
You could do this by using a USB cable. Nowadays, USB data transfers are faster than ever since the advent of USB 3.0, so you won’t have to bother about transfer speed even if your photos are well over 10GB in size. Hackemist’s recent article gives an elaborate description of USB 3.0, which is an improved version of USB 2.0. The article also provides its common uses, and why you should consider using it more often, anytime you have to move some files to your computer. Now, how do we get to transfer our photos from iPhone to PC through the USB cable?
- Using The Windows Photo App
This method is applicable to PCs using Windows 8 or 10.
Step 1: Connect your iPhone to the PC using the USB cable.
Step 2: Unlock your phone if it is locked. You might see this prompt, “Trust This Computer?”. Tap “Trust” and follow the instructions that will be provided.
Step 3: Go to the “Start” menu on your PC and scroll down to “Photos,” or go to the search box in the bottom-left corner and type “Photos.” Double click to launch the application.
Step 4: Click “import” on the top-right corner and a drop-down menu will appear. Select the option that says “from a connected device” or “from a USB device.”.
Step 5: Select the photos you want to transfer to your PC and click “import.”.
- Using Autoplay
This method is suitable for PCs running on Windows 7 or PCs that don’t have the Windows Photo app.
Step 1: Connect your iPhone to the PC using your USB cable.
Step 2: An Autoplay dialog box will pop up on your screen. Select the option “import pictures and videos.”
Step 3: Select the photos you want to transfer and click “import.”
- Using File Explorer
This is the very traditional, old-fashioned way to transfer photos from an iPhone to PC without iTunes. It involves:
Step 1: Connect your iPhone to the PC using a USB cable.
Step 2: Go to “Start” and search for “File Explorer” in the search box, then launch the application. You can also use the shortcut, Windows key + E and launch the “File Explorer” app.
Step 3: Select “This PC” from the options and search for your iPhone under “Devices and Drives.”.
Step 4: Click on your device name, open “internal storage,” and click on “DCIM”.
Step 5: Find your photos, copy and paste them or drag and drop them to any location on the PC.
The steps outlined above show how to transfer photos from iPhone to PC without iTunes. Now you don’t have any excuse for not backing up your photos on your PC.
