Wyrms OSRS: Complete Slayer Guide and Combat Strategies

Wyrms are mid-level Slayer monsters found in Old School RuneScape that provide a unique challenge and profitable drops. Introduced with the Kebos Lowlands update, Wyrms reside in the mysterious Karuulm Slayer Dungeon and require a Slayer level of 62 to be engaged in combat. Their serpentine appearance and dragon-like abilities make them an intriguing monster for both profit-seeking players and those pursuing Slayer progression.
Location and Access to Wyrms
Wyrms are located in the lower level of the Karuulm Slayer Dungeon, situated on Mount Karuulm in the western part of the Zeah continent. Players can access the dungeon by using Rada’s blessing to teleport to the nearby mount or by using the fairy ring code CIR and traveling north. Another option is using the Skills Necklace to teleport to the Farming Guild and walking a short distance west. Players should wear boots of stone, boots of brimstone, or granite boots to protect themselves from the volcanic floor damage present in the dungeon.
Slayer Requirements and Assignments
To fight Wyrms, players must have at least level 62 Slayer. Although Wyrms can be killed off-task, players will benefit more from Slayer experience and point rewards when assigned Wyrms by Slayer masters. The most common Slayer masters that assign Wyrms include Konar quo Maten, Nieve (or Steve), and Duradel. Since Wyrms offer moderate difficulty, they are frequently assigned to players between levels 80 to 110 combat, making them suitable for mid-to-high-level Slayer training.
Combat Style and Mechanics
Wyrms use a combination of magic and melee attacks, with a stronger focus on magic damage. Their magic attack is their primary offensive method and can be reduced with magic defense gear and the Protect from Magic prayer. They are not aggressive to players above combat level 85, which means players can AFK train on them with minimal interruptions. Wyrms are not dragons, so dragonbane weapons like the Dragon hunter lance do not work against them. However, they are considered draconic creatures and drop bones accordingly, contributing to Prayer training or profit.
Recommended Gear and Inventory Setup
For optimal efficiency, players should use magic defense gear such as Karil’s armor, Armadyl armor, or even black d’hide if on a budget. The Slayer helmet (imbued) should be worn when on task for its offensive and defensive bonuses. A strong melee weapon such as a whip, Abyssal tentacle, or Dragon scimitar works well, especially when paired with high Strength and Attack stats. Bring super combat potions or attack and strength potions, along with a few prayer potions if using protection prayers. Inventory should also include teleportation items, a few pieces of food like sharks or monkfish, and an emergency teleport such as a Ring of dueling or an Ectophial.
How to Safely Kill Wyrms
When entering the Wyrm room in the Karuulm Slayer Dungeon, it’s important to activate Protect from Magic to negate the brunt of their attacks. While their melee attack is weaker, staying at a 1-tile distance can help reduce melee hits if you’re using a halberd or long-range attacks. Kill one Wyrm at a time to avoid being overwhelmed, and make sure to use your special attack when your bar is full to speed up kills. Using a cannon is not recommended due to the narrow corridors and high hitpoints of Wyrms, making manual combat more efficient.
Best Strategies for Fast Kills
To maximize kill speed, prioritize melee combat with high DPS weapons. Using overhead prayers like Piety will increase your damage and defense but consume prayer points faster. If not on a Slayer task, consider wearing a Salve amulet (e) instead of a Slayer helmet, as Wyrms count as undead. Although they are not extremely fast to kill compared to lower-level creatures, they offer better loot, making them a popular choice for profit-focused Slayer training. Setting up in a world with fewer players will also help you secure better spawn rates and reduce competition.
Notable Drops and Profit Potential
Wyrms drop a variety of valuable items, making them a profitable Slayer monster. Their notable drops include the Dragon sword and Dragon harpoon, each worth a decent amount on the Grand Exchange. They also drop Wyrm bones, which can be buried or used on a gilded altar for Prayer XP. Additional drops include Rune battleaxes, Rune longswords, and various herbs, runes, and seeds. Players can expect around 400,000 to 600,000 GP per hour when killing Wyrms efficiently, depending on drop luck and kill speed.
Wyrm Bones and Prayer Experience
Wyrm bones are unique to Wyrms and offer 50 Prayer experience when buried. This is higher than regular dragon bones but lower than superior bones. Using Wyrm bones on a gilded altar with burners lit provides 175 XP per bone, making them a decent mid-tier option for training Prayer. While not as cost-efficient as dragon bones, Wyrm bones are often kept by Ironmen or sold by regular players for profit. Their consistent drop rate makes them a reliable source of income even on dry runs without rare drops.
Ironman Strategies for Wyrms
Ironman accounts benefit greatly from Wyrm drops. The Dragon harpoon is particularly valuable for fishing training and requires 61 Fishing to wield. Dragon swords are decent melee weapons for mid-level combat situations. Wyrm bones help with Prayer training, which can be difficult for Ironmen due to limited access to dragon bones. Ironmen should bank all valuable drops and consider using a looting bag to maximize efficiency during extended trips. Bringing high-healing food and managing prayer points wisely will reduce the need to bank frequently.
Tasks and Alternatives
While Wyrms are a solid Slayer task, some players may prefer faster or more profitable alternatives depending on their level and goals. Alternative monsters include Gargoyles for steady cash, Dust Devils for AFK training, and Nechryaels for burstable tasks. However, Wyrms remain a strong mid-tier option that combines manageable difficulty with solid rewards. Skipping them may be beneficial if you seek faster XP per hour, but they are often worth completing for their profitable loot and Slayer point accumulation.
Tips for Efficient Wyrm Slaying

Always bring boots that protect from the volcanic dungeon floor, or you’ll suffer constant damage. Activate Protect from Magic immediately upon entering the Wyrm section. Keep your Slayer helmet imbued for extra bonuses, and consider banking between trips instead of staying too long and risking death. If using melee, maintain your attack boost with potions and prayers. Choose less crowded worlds for optimal kill rates. Use your special attack early to regain energy during the trip. Make use of Quick Prayers and function keys for efficient combat.
Final Thoughts
Wyrms strike a balance between difficulty, profit, and Slayer experience, making them a favorite among OSRS players with mid-to-high combat stats. Their unique location, consistent loot table, and access through various Slayer masters make them a reliable and engaging task. Whether you’re aiming for profit, combat training, or Slayer progression, Wyrms offer a steady and satisfying experience in the ever-expanding world of Old School RuneScape.
