Vorkath

In this guide for Old School RuneScape, we’ll be discussing the different attacks of Vorkath so that you can efficiently farm this boss for gold, its head, or for its pet. There are three different methods of fighting Vorkath, which we’ll be discussing. This guide is perfect for those looking to kill Vorkath for Dragon Slayer II or those simply looking to farm this boss.

Skill and Quest Requirements

You must get to a certain point in Dragon Slayer II to be able to fight the weaker variant of Vorkath. For this, you’ll need to meet these requirements (skill level requirements are not boostable):

  • 200 Quest Points
  • 75 Magic
  • 70 Smithing
  • 68 Mining
  • 62 Crafting
  • 60 Agility
  • 60 Thieving
  • 50 Construction
  • 50 Hitpoints
  • Access to Ancient Cavern

Completed Questlines:

  • Legends’ Quest
  • Dream Mentor
  • A Tail of Two Cats
  • Animal Magnetism
  • Ghosts Ahoy
  • Bone Voyage
  • Client of Kourend

Once you have finished Dragon Slayer II, you’ll then gain access to a repeatable fight with the Level 732 variant of Vorkath. This variant has valuable drops, including Vorkath’s head (guaranteed drop on the 50th kill) which is an item required for Ava’s Assembler.

Vorkath Recommended Items, Gear, and Levels

It’s recommended to fight Vorkath with the Ranged combat style due to the cost in gear and the difficulty of the fight. You must be at around 80-85 Ranged to be able to fight Vorkath comfortably, and at least 43 Prayer to use Protection prayers.

Once you’re comfortable with Vorkath, it’s recommended to use Melee for faster kill time and more gold. If you decide to use Melee, it’s recommended to be at least level 90 in melee skills. Since gear for this method is pretty expensive, you can buy OSRS gold to get the required pieces of gear.

Vorkath Fight Rundown

Attacks:

Vorkath will be using one of his six regular attacks (seven if you’re using melee), then a special attack on the seventh. Special attacks will alternate between two — the first special attack will be at random. Listed below are Vorkath’s attacks.

Regular Attacks:

  • Blue missile attack: Deals magic damage, maximum hit of 30
  • Gray spiky attack: Deals ranged damage, maximum hit of 32
  • Dragonfire: Deals dragonfire damage, mitigated by super antifire protection and Protect from Magic
  • Green Dragonfire: Same as the Dragonfire attack, but applies Venom status (mitigated by Anti-venom+)
  • Pink Dragonfire: Turns off all prayers — use the Quick prayer function
  • Vertical Dragonfire: Vorkath spits out a Dragonfire attack that slowly moves upward, landing on your current position. Move two tiles away to avoid this.

Special Attacks:

  • Acid Pool: Vorkath will spit out acid pools on the ground, then send out a barrage of dragonfire towards you. You need to constantly move in this phase to avoid the dragonfire — do not walk on the acid pools. It’s highly recommended to walk here instead of running to have an easier time with this phase.
  • Ice Attack: Vorkath freezes you with an ice dragonbreath, then sends out a Zombified Spawn. Use Crumble Undead on the spawn before it gets closer, or you’ll take a huge amount of damage.

Ranged method:

Use the appropriate protection prayer for your chosen method (Protect from Magic for Blowpipe method, Protect from Missiles for DHCB method) along with your Ranged prayer boost (Rigour is highly recommended). Step away from Vorkath to avoid taking melee damage. Also, make sure that you have run toggled off for Vorkath’s Acid Pool special attack. Lastly, make sure that your health does not go below Vorkath’s max hit (30 for DHCB method, 32 for Blowpipe method).

Melee method:

When you get used to fighting Vorkath, melee is the way to go for more GP/hour. You’ll be defending yourself from Vorkath’s melee and ranged attacks by using Protect from Magic. The fight will mostly be the same as with the Ranged method, aside from the melee attack with a maximum hit of 32. Also, you can use a Slayer staff to autocast Crumble Undead during the Ice Attack, although it’s not necessary.

Tips

  • Keep your protection prayer and buffs on at all times, as Vorkath can easily melt your health if you aren’t paying attention.
  • Stay calm and make sure to stay above Vorkath’s max hit for your method of choice.
  • Dying here is safe — You can collect your items from Torfinn for 100,000 coins. Don’t be afraid of practicing here.
  • You can use the Lunar Isle bank without a seal by ‘Birds-Eye’ Jack’s bank booth, then talk to other bankers to teleport to Rellekka.
